About the Dallas Area Drug Prevention Partnership

The Dallas Area Drug Prevention Partnership (DADPP) is a community coalition established in 2007. It originally consisted of a task force addressing an alarming number of cheese/heroin overdose deaths among Dallas area youth. In 2009 it expanded its focus to include marijuana, and prescription drugs, and restated its mission: Dedicated to creating a community that is informed, engaged, and empowered to prevent youth drug use. Our vision is a culture of healthy, drug free youth in North Texas.

DADPP has developed critical relationships within the community to increase collaboration and create best-practice drug prevention strategies. It represents a collaborative effort based on the simple premise that local people are in the best position to solve local problems. By definition, coalitions recognize that people are more likely to support what they help create, and change is most likely to occur when the process engages multiple sectors of a community in a cooperative approach. DADPP is made up of concerned citizens representing education, law enforcement, government, health care, alcohol and drug prevention/treatment/recovery, youth serving organizations, churches, media, business, parents, and youth. Together, they facilitate accurate data collection and dissemination, conduct public awareness campaigns, promote healthy media messages, conduct community outreach, and educate youth, parents, and the community at large.

DADPP implements evidence-based environmental strategies aimed at population-level change: (1) limit youth access to alcohol and dangerous drugs; (2) change the culture and contexts within which decisions about alcohol/drugs are made; and (3) reduce the prevalence of negative consequences associated with alcohol/drug use.

Recovery Resource Council manages the Dallas Area Drug Prevention Partnership as the fiscal and programmatic agent. DADPP is a natural extension of the Council’s 70+ year emphasis preventing problems with alcohol and other drugs before they occur, intervening when they do and promoting recovery for people already addicted.

Whether you are interested in joining the DADPP Coalition, volunteering for one of our community events, submitting a request for resources, or requesting us to speak at your school or organization, we are here to serve you.

DADPP meets at 12700 Preston Road, Dallas, 75230 on the third Tuesday of every month at 2:00 PM. Our meetings are open and we always welcome new faces.
